The Royal Velvet Class-A British Drive and Pre nails the feel and tone of two of Nick Greer’s favorite amps. Imagine a world in which a V*x 30 watter and a Greer Thunderbolt30 got together. In that world, you’d end up with a sound machine much like the Royal Velvet. This British drive and pre features the same transformer as the previously released, award winning SOMA63. After a year of working with this super versatile transformer, we have found a way to alter the feel of it by changing the “loading” of the transformer. This really brings the pedal to life, and makes it something truly unique in the space of drive pedals today. If you’re looking for that Class-A British grind with some chime on the top end, this beauty is what you need. The EQ is dialed in right between the AC and Thunderbolt30 tones, and the drive is oh so sweet. The SOMA ’63 is a true vintage preamp, based on the tone and feel of vintage brown era amplifiers from California. This pedal simulates the entire preamp, phase inverter, power section, and even the feel of the vintage 10 inch Utah speakers that were in those famous brown amps. The tone stack is designed to provide a wide and dynamic range of tonal options to the user. The Presence control works with the tone stack, and is designed to be a wide range control, effecting the overall sound of the entire circuit. The SOMA ’63 features a steel core transformer in the audio signal path. The transformer lends to the overall tone shaping of the circuit, and when the gain is pushed hard, especially with higher output pickups, the small steel core transformer will saturate, just like a vintage amplifier. The SOMA ’63 can be used as a tone-shaping preamp, or as an overdrive pedal. On power up, the inrush current can be as high as 700mA settling to 280-300mA during use. This should be provided from the supplied centre negative power supply. However, if your boards power supply can provide the requisite voltage and current requirements you can. Do not attempt to use this pedal with other voltages or polarities, the pedal can at best just not start up (limp mode) or at worst you can damage the sensitive internal electrics. This is a pedal I describe as an Analog amp emula- tor. The project came about initially as we were asked to create a pedal that emulated a rare amp called the Selmer Treble and Bass 50. The player in question (Lee Harris - Saucerful of Secrets) wanted a pedal to provide him with the vintage amp tones Syd Barret used in early Pink Floyd music so that he could sound authentic whilst playing on the Saucerful of Secrets World Tour. In the pedal development we made sure that the Selmer was covered to- nally but as always, we went further than the initial scope of design. So, as well as the Selmer Amp we also en- sured that the DR103 and AC30 style tones could be captured successfully. We took cues from a beloved 1970s Canadian bass amplifier, but we did not shy away from redesigning entire circuit blocks from scratch. Without taking away the classic piano-like attack that defined 90s noise rock, we expanded the tonal range to suit more tasteful playing or filthy, down-tuned mayhem. Audio, a cascading distortion pedal that gives you two distortion circuits in series for flexible tone-shattering fun. With separate gain knobs for each circuit on the right side of the pedal, the Unclean features plenty of headroom in both stages to use either in any gain position from a searing boost all the way to full distortion. The first channel features a brighter, biting character while the second offers a darker drive tone, giving you a rich range of sounds to explore at different settings. At the left side of controls, the bottom knob offers a unique tone shaping Resonance circuit that controls the low-end energy at the output stage, useful for cleaning up the boominess when stacking Unclean with other drives and amps, or just dialing in a tighter, more modern sound. Finally, the volume control adjusts the level of output at any setting combination, with plentiful volume on tap in classic Non-Human fashion. If you're looking for a compact source for versatile drive tones, characterful boost, and deeply distorted riffs, Unclean from Non-Human Audio is here to coat your tone in all the dirt you could ever need.

Unclean Features

Versatile cascading distortion pedal

Dual drive / distortion circuits in series with independent gain controls

First drive is brighter, second drive has a darker character

Plenty of internal headroom for great results at any gain setting combination

Resonance tone shaping knob cuts bass energy at lower settings

Volume control with impressive loudness potential

Hand painted enclosure design—no two look exactly alike!

Product Details

Dimensions: 127 × 67 × 61 mm (L × W × H)

Power Specs: 9VDC center negative power supply (PSU not included)

Non-Human Audio Kimchi

Kimchi from Non-Human Audio is a textural fuzz and drive pedal designed to inject rich and raucous dirt into your signal chain, imparting flavorful bite from clangorous chords to compressed fuzz riffs. Fermenting the typical topologies of transistor-based distortion to enable adjustable biasing, the Kimchi offers a distinct sound that sets it apart from most classic designs. Along the travel of the gain control, you can summon stinging overdrive for soaring lead lines, and max things out into deeply compressed fuzz, providing a wide range of tonal options to explore with the highly interactive trio of knob controls.
